A Family Dream
In 1936, Al Diemand purchased 125 acres of farmland in Wendell, Massachusetts, fulfilling his lifelong dream of becoming a farmer. Shortly after buying the farm, Al married his sweetheart, Elsie. Together they raised twelve children—Joseph, Mary, Bertha, Elsie, Judy, Albert, Faith, Peter, Edward, Anthony, Anne, and Paul—building a life rooted in hard work and a deep love for the land.
Growing the Farm and the Family
As the family grew, an additional 50 acres were added to support expanding farming ventures. Diemand Farm began with hormone-free broiler chickens and all-natural eggs, and over the decades has continued to evolve. The farm expanded into pasture-raised turkeys, compost, lumber, and beef cattle, while also becoming known for catering BBQ chicken dinners featuring the Diemand family’s signature sauce—a local favorite at gatherings and events.
Like any long-standing farm, some ventures have come and gone over the years. Maple syrup, for example, was once produced here but is no longer part of our farm story today. Through each change, a commitment to quality and adaptability has remained constant.
Opening the Farm Store
In 2001, Peter, Faith, and Anne—along with countless relatives—expanded our farm store into a staffed, full-time offering for the public. The farm had long provided ways for customers to purchase products, from a simple freezer to a self-serve setup, but this marked a new chapter.
From that point on, home-style favorites—including pot pies, soups, and desserts—became regularly available, made whenever possible with locally sourced ingredients. What began as a simple offering grew into a farm store known for its hearty, prepared foods and connection to the community.
Three Generations Strong
Today, Diemand Farm is a proud third-generation family farm. Owned by Anne, Peter, Faith, and now Tessa—the granddaughter of Al and Elsie—and supported by many other family members, we keep the farm’s spirit alive. Together, we honor Al and Elsie’s legacy by providing wholesome, high-quality foods and sharing our love of farming with the community.
